Bought this product since its family was rated best product in consumer report. What a disappointment - got corrupted voice after 2 weeks of sample use. Suggested by Garmin support to update software and voice.Done that and on 1 trip, the unit totally lost its voice during our short test trip to the zoo (we did not mute the device).I am going to exchange another unit since I already gotten the portable friction mount. I wish the next one will not be as bad.
Also sometimes the voice doesn't work when I start driving and I need to adjust the volume up or down to get it to work. I live around 10 miles west of NYC and I get no traffic reports. The free traffic, which is one of the main reasons I bought this GPS, does not work. If everything worked I would love it but I don't know if I'm just having bad luck or this unit is not very good. This is my second Nuvi 265WT and other had the same problem. Also the Bluetooth cuts off after about one minute. Garmin customer service leaves you on hold for over 30 minutes the few times I tried to call them. I emailed them twice and never saw a response.
I am extremely satisfied with my new Garmin nüvi 265WT. I have already recommended this product to several of my friends. There is no sound indicator (on the Magellan, you have a choice of different chimes) to let you know that you're at the street corner you're supposed to turn at.
Three of the big reasons why I purchased the Garmin nüvi 265WT were to gain Bluetooth, free integrated traffic and walking portability. If you're trying to find a particular point of interest, spelling the location can take several minutes for the system to find the entry you're looking for.Compared to my old Magellan system, which was big and clunky, the Garman is a dream. For the past five years I have been using a Magellan 900 GPS system.
The address menu requires way too many screen touches to get to the address you're looking for from the favorites file. All three of these features work extremely well. There are only a few criticisms that I have. The verbal directions are spoken too quickly and sometimes difficult to understand.
The Garmin nüvi 265WT is compact and easy to read even in direct sunlight.
I recived this with no User Manual. The pedestrain mode never worked. I called Garmin they told me to download from there web site. They would not send me one, i belive with all the trouble that i am having, this was a recondition unit sold as new.I have and still have problem with the sound, it works on and off mostly off. Tne mapping has errors also. I call Garmin for help they were not helpful at all.I am trying to return it now, however the 30 days are up.
I got this GPS for my son - it's an updated version of my nuvi and has all the bells and whistles that a computer guru demands. He loves it. He's a firefighter and it helps so much with finding houses in the area and has updates with it, so he can stay on top of the growing cities surrounding us. Great purchase.
